I, with some friends, went to see the movie (Madagascar II)this week-end down in Seattle it was in the morning and it was a good movie....it was a free ticket from my friend Susan...(Thanks Susan). When we got out of the movie there were so many people outside. At first I didn't know what was going on then I saw the signs, flags, chanting and I knew. The Seattle March for Gay Rights (against CA Prop 8 & Mormons). I understand there where 6000 individuals.
I was in aw and a little nervous because I have not ever been among a very strong and mad crowd. The March was overall peaceful but thoughts went through my head as I watched and wondered what would have happened if they knew 1-I was a Mormon, 2-I didn't fully agree with them. (I hope they would have wanted to understand why I felt the way I did and how our differences could be resolved with out violence) I feared they would have yelled at me, called me names or hurt me. That didn't happen but I pondered why I felt the way I did verse the way they felt the way they did.
My answer to myself:
-We as a people jump to conclusions we don't look at it from others individuals sides.
-We want to be right and are not willing to look for solutions to resolve differences.
-Our passions get the better of us and we react, creating a atmosphere of hate, anger, hostility and selfishness.
I am not an expert on this subject by any means but that does not make me stupid.
This is how I feel and what I believe; "I want everyone to have rights, but changing the Constinution is not the way to resolve this issue" If changed it would create more issues and problems down the road, I believe that if a group of individuals sit down and talk about this matter without a vise to over power the other....working to make the right choice for both sides this issue would get resolved.
But this questions comes to me....is there really only two sides? I think not I think that there are those who are out to prove many different points and are NOT out for just the RIGHTS of the people, AND I MEAN THE PEOPLE (ALL PEOPLE whatever they believe)
My sign reads..... I HAVE RIGHTS & YOU SHOULD HAVE RIGHTS....BUT DON'T CHANGE OUR CONSTITUTION.......Work together to CHANGE THE LAWS to give ALL RIGHTS.
